The following steps will help you with your home set up, whether your connecting for the first time or simply hoping to enhance your Wi-Fi capabilities around your premises.
What technology will connect your premises?
The nbn® network uses a range of technologies to deliver higher internet speeds across Australia, and aims to deliver at least 50Mbps download speeds to 90% of fixed line premises.
Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)
A fibre optic line is installed all the way to your premises.
Fibre to the Node (FTTN)
Fibre is installed to a newly built cabinet nearby on the street, then connected to the existing copper network.
Fibre to the Building (FTTB)
Fibre is installed to a building and connected to a cabinet inside it.
Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC)
Used where the existing cable network can be used to reach the premises.
Fixed wireless
Data is sent from a transmission tower and travels wirelessly to an antenna fitted to the premises roof by an nbn® approved installer.
Satellite
In some remote and rural locations, services are delivered via satellite. A dish is installed on the premises and receives the nbn® signal.
